Kingston Bagpuize with Southmoor Women's Institute.
We are delighted to welcome you to our web site, our virtual WI.
This webpage was compiled to help and interest our members and to tell the rest of the world what our aims are, what we do and why we exist.
The WI. is the largest voluntary women's organisation in the UK. The ideals of the Women's Institute are truth, justice, tolerance and friendship. The WI. exists to educate women to enable them to provide an effective role in the community, to expand their horizons and to develop and pass on important skills.
'The WI plays a unique role in providing women with educational opportunities and the chance to build new skills, to take part in a wide variety of activities and to campaign on issues that matter to them and their communities'. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
So what does the W.I. offer?
The W.I. offers women the best opportunity to make an impact in their communities, to influence local, national and world issues affecting the social, economic and environmental life of families and communities, and to learn traditional and new skills.
Did you know that since its inception in 1915 the W.I. has campaigned on a wide range of issues including:
Domestic Violence , Equal Pay, Oil Pollution, Aids, Farm Gate Milk Prices, Care of Our Environment, Stop Climate Chaos, Chemicals and Health, Supermarkets, Fairtrade Fortnight, Children's diets, exercise and health, Healthy Eating, and Supermarket Packaging Campaign.

WI members are backing dairy farmers.more.....
The NFU and the NFWI are campaigning to safeguard the future for Britain's dairy farmers. WI members got behind dairy farmers in their thousands during the Great Milk Debates however there is increasing concern that momentum has been lost, and many farmers are struggling to make a decent living.
By revisiting the Great Milk Debates we hope to show that consumers have a real stake in the vibrancy of the British Dairy industry. We will be calling on retailers, processors and the Government to play their part in ensuring there is a long-term future for British milk. Over 15,000 members took part in the debates in 2007 and we believe that there is still a huge strength of feeling to evoke change today. An action pack will be available shortly. Read on...
All this Midwives and Milk talk makes me think of Moodle.
I hope you didn't say 'What is that?' You did? Well the WI Moodle, is the training and resource site for the National Federation of Women's Institutes. It is really interesting and you really should read about it and join in.
So what is it about?
WI YouTube Channel, Woman's Hour Podcasts, Craft Club, What's on in Denman and WI Facebook and Twitter. You will find it here.
The Great Food Debate
The WI's Love Food Champions are working in their communities to help individuals reduce food waste.
We also campaign on wider policy issues including: human trafficking and violence against women, adult education and trade justice. In 2009 our campaign was for honey bees, which we are still following. See more here.
SOS for Honey Bees - Honey Bees play a vital role in the pollination of food crops and in our environment. In view of concerns about the accelerating decline in the UK honey bee population, this meeting urges HM Government to increase funding for research into Bee Health.
